What People Are Saying...
The private lessons I offer focus on technique, practice methods, improvisation, listening, and self-examination. My goal as an instructor is to help my students become more proficient musicians and connect with music on a deeper level. I provide insights and methods that enable students to deconstruct difficult material and learn to apply their creativity to the drums. Students that study with me are typically middle school age and older.
I'm a firm believer that education reaches its potential when the student possesses the desire to learn and the teacher- who is simply a student further down the road- knows what areas of focus will most benefit the student. It's very important to me that my students are taught in a holistic way and that they are encouraged to continue exploring the potential that lies in learning an art form.
As an educator, I have taught private lessons for over 10 years. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Western Washington University, where I worked for three years as a Jazz Instructor. Currently, I work as an applied instructor for drummers at Whatcom Community College as well as a coach for student jazz combos at the Whatcom Jazz Music Arts Center.
